According to Dr Priyanka Hemrajani, Sr. Consultant, Dermatology, Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram, “The monsoon season cools things down, but also brings more humidity, more sweating, and microbial growth that can disrupt the skin barrier. This often results in acne breakouts, fungal infections and general sensitivity of the skin. A simple, consistent routine can help keep skin healthy through the season.”
5 Dermatologist-Recommended Ways To Protect Your Skin During Monsoon
Double Cleansing Is Important
On humid days, sweat, sunscreen, oil and pollution tend to accumulate more. Begin by using an oil-based cleanser to break up sunscreen and impurities, and follow up with a gentle face wash. This helps to keep pores clean without stripping skin.
Lightweight Moisturiser Is Still Essential
Skipping moisturiser in the monsoon can make the skin barrier weak. Choose non-comedogenic, lightweight formulas with ceramides, glycerin and hyaluronic acid to keep skin hydrated without heaviness and greasiness.
Choose Breathable And Minimal Makeup
Heavy and occlusive makeup can trap sweat and oil, resulting in clogged pores and breakouts. Opt for water-based, non-comedogenic products and make sure to remove makeup before sleeping.
Sunscreen Is A Daily Must
The sun’s UV rays can get through clouds and even glass, so don’t skip the sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, even on cloudy days and indoors. It can help to prevent tanning, pigmentation and sun damage over the long term.
Reapply And Apply Correctly
For best results, apply sunscreen generously and reapply frequently. Apply the two-finger rule. Apply two full strips of sunscreen on the index and middle fingers for the face and neck. Reapply every 2 to 3 hours if you are outdoors or in sunlight for long periods of time.
Healthy monsoon skin is not about more products; it’s about the right products. Gentle cleansing, barrier support, sun protection and consistency go a long way for clear, balanced skin.
