Rhea highlighted that with fashion silhouettes becoming more minimalistic in colour and form, the time for coloured gemstones has truly arrived - coloured gems in bright hues or pastel shades can complement any outfit this festive season. You can consider pastel pink gemstones like morganites to accessorise a cooler-toned outfit, while a bright gem like a red spinel or peridot can perfectly offset a jewel-toned outfit for the night.

Traditional Gemstones

According to Rhea, the setting of the gem dictates the general look of a piece of jewellery and differentiates it from being modern or traditional. Traditional gemstones like rubies and emeralds can be used in avant-garde cuts such as hexagons and cabochons instead of the conventional rounds and ovals. You can opt for modern bezel settings along with the use of metals such as platinum and titanium to create truly modern pieces of jewellery. Traditional gemstones, when carved, can also be a modern equivalent to the traditional faceted/cut gemstones.
