What does the Met Gala 2027 theme mean?

The Met Gala 2027 theme is ‘John Galliano: Horizons’, highlighting the designer's decades-long work. He served as the creative director of his eponymous label John Galliano and French fashion houses Givenchy and Dior. Later, he was also associated with Paris-based fashion house Maison Margiela and has even been named British Designer of the Year several times.

The exhibition will showcase more than 200 looks and hundreds of supporting materials, including accessories, sketches, photographs, archival documents, runway footage, and ephemera. His work from his 1984 Central Saint Martins graduate collection to his collaboration with Dior and Givenchy will also be displayed.

It will open to the public on May 9, 2027, and will remain for the public view till January 9, 2028.

The theme is controversial due to John Galliano’s controversial remarks in the past. In 2010, he made some antisemitic remarks in Paris in a drunken state, and the video surfaced in 2011 before Paris Fashion Week. Following the incident, Dior parted ways with him and announced their suspension of Galliano. Several celebrities, including Natalie Portman and Eva Green, expressed their shock over his remarks.
