The wedding season is coming up and so is the pressure to get our lehengas and cocktail party dresses stitched. We do have some in our wardrobe but do not want to repeat it of course (pics same aayengi). So thanks to the Lakme Fashion Week last year, we got to know what will be the in thing, what fabric is going to make a mark again and what designs and colours would look amazing this wedding season. Taking cues from different fashion designers and our celeb showstoppers like Manish Malhotra, Payal Singhal, Arpita Mehta, Gauri and Nainika, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Disha Patani, Tara Sutaria, Ananya Pandey, Athiya Shetty... The list was never-ending this time... we spotted some trends that will be in this shaadi season that may be of use to you since you are yet to get those outfits stitched. So here we go.
Velvets Are Back
It was two years back when they were in but this time velvets are back and we are glad as they look chic and save us from the cold at the same time. Ace designer Manish Malhotra and Ritu Kumar brought the fabric back to the ramp with their collections Maahrumysha and the structure and pastoral collections respectively.
While Katrina Kaif looked amazing in this darkest value of green velvet lehenga with embellishments in floral which she wore for Manish Malhotra, Tara Sutaria made her ramp debut for Ritu Kumar collection which she explained on her Instagram. She wrote: “This seasons collection is all about structure and fit, in a way that LABEL has never been before. The collection has colours from pastoral and equestrian mood, burnt reds and blacks dominate the palette.”
Tara wore a white shirt which had been paired with a black, embroidered pinafore. She kept her hair loose, and as accessories, she just wore a leather belt with beaded strands. Smokey eyes and black boots completed the look.
Yes, the neon colours are out! Bring in those pink and yellow outfits that you have stored in your wardrobe or like in that store before but never bought. Fashion designers Arpita Mehta, Payal Singhal, Gaurang Shah, Bandana Narula, Jajaabor, all used the neon colours in their collections.
One pretty example of using the colours is the pic above wherein Ananya Pandey can be seen walking the ramp for Arpita Mehta.
BLack Rules & Cocktail Ensembles
The colour black was consistent on the ramp. Be it bebo or Kareena Kapoor Khan walking the ramp all wrapped in an all-black off-shoulder ensemble with layers of silk and net, for Gauri & Nainika, or Disha Patani walking for ace designers Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna, who in fact made their comeback on the LFW stage after 15 years. Even Athiya Shetty's 60's influenced saree was in balck and white, a number she flaunted for ace designers Abraham & Thakore.
Another cue that we got from here are the dressing ideas for cocktail parties. From a thigh-high slit dress to a ruffled saree, you sure can amp up the wardrobe for the next cocktail party.
This year, bridal wear too would have a beach look to their outfits by bringing in a boho element like designers Payal Singhal to Nachiket Barve and Rajdeep Ranawat, did at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive collection this year.
Shibani Dandekar looked beautiful in a pastel-hued base lehenga with pom-poms and embellishments with a matching choli and a fringed shrug. For her accessories, she wore bling earrings and glittery eye make-up while Farhan Akhtar had worn a multi coloured kurta-pyjama set, which he paired with sneakers. The couple walked for Payal Singhal's collection.
Above is Rajdeep Ranawat's collection which too had a boho feel to it and we are loving it! Stay tuned to our Fashion section for more Lakme Fashion Week Trendspotting stories as we noticed oodles!
