Saree borders are often the most beautiful and ornate part of a saree, and discarding them with an old garment can feel like a waste. Upcycling these precious pieces of fabric into new accessories is a fantastic way to preserve their beauty and add a touch of traditional flair to your modern wardrobe.

How To Convert Old Saree Borders Into Stylish Headbands Or Chokers

Here's how to convert old saree borders into stylish headbands or chokers, with two easy-to-follow methods.

Method 1: The No-Sew Headband

This is a simple method that requires no sewing. It's a great way to add a touch of elegance to your hairstyle.

What You'll Need:

  • A piece of the saree border
  • Fabric scissors
  • A hot glue gun or fabric glue
  • An elastic band
  • A measuring tape

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Measure the circumference of your head. Cut a piece of the saree border that is about 4-5 inches shorter than the measurement.
  • Take the elastic band and glue one end of it to one end of the saree border. Overlap the fabric and elastic by about half an inch and secure it with a generous amount of glue.
  • Take the other end of the elastic and glue it to the other end of the saree border, creating a continuous loop. Let the glue dry completely. You now have a stylish, elastic headband that won't slip!

What You'll Need:

  • A piece of the saree border
  • Fabric scissors
  • A hot glue gun or strong adhesive
  • Ribbon clasps
  • Pliers

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  • Measure the circumference of your neck and add about 1 inch to it. Cut a piece of the saree border to that length.
  • Apply a small amount of glue to the inside of the ribbon clasp. Insert one end of the saree border into the clasp and use pliers to gently secure it shut. Repeat with the other end of the saree border.
  • Let the glue dry completely. You can now use a hook to connect the two clasps and wear your beautiful, new choker!
