Niramala Sitharaman made a rather stylish entry at the finance ministry office to present the Interim Budget 2024 on Thursday morning, February 1, 2024. The Finance Minister donned a turquoise blue and cream hued ‘tussar’ silk saree. The length of the drape had a blue base with cream coloured ‘kantha’ work print all over.

Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman is known for her fashion love for Indian handloom textiles. Meanwhile, doing so she casually sends across the vocal for local message.
Last year, Mrs. Sitharaman had picked a handwoven crimson ‘ikal’ saree detailed with ‘Navalagunda’ embroidery. That saree was a present given to her by minister Pralhad Joshi from Dharwad, Karnataka. After the Finance Minister picked the saree she was going to drape on the embroidery was hand done all over it.

We have noticed Nirmala Sitharaman always inclining towards the off-white or cream colour. These hues are the finance minister’s favourite for sure as she is often seen draped in the colour.

Part of all the honourable mentions from her wardrobe, is that Sitharaman had worn a crimson and off-white ‘pochampally’ saree in the year 2021. In the year 2019, she picked a pink ‘mangalgiri’ saree that was adorned with a golden border.

Along with the handwoven sarees, what has been a wardrobe constant in Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget is the red coloured book that she is seen carrying every year. In 2019, the red book was a traditional ‘bahi khata’ in her first budget. From the year 2021 onwards, the budget became paperless with Nirmala Sitharaman carrying a tablet in a red cover from which she reads her budget documents.
