Australia is called ‘The Land Down Under’ because it lies in the south of the equator. Surrounded with pristine beauty, overflowing job opportunities, and offering quality education are a few reasons why it is a popular choice among many Indians who want to study and work abroad.

Students apply to study in the fields of accounting, healthcare, technology, hotel management, psychology, and more. This article talks about four reasons why you should consider moving to Australia if you are planning to migrate.

According to a report published in the High Commission of India, in Canberra, Australia, the Indians make up the second-largest enrolments in Australian universities. In January-July 2022, 86,728 Indians were studying there.

Initially, the country was experiencing workforce shortages, therefore, the Government of Australia even issued relaxations on student visa work hours restrictions. It is supposed to end on June 30, 2023.

In one of her reels on Instagram, Nidhi Nagori, a career coach, shared why Indians should consider moving to Australia.

According to reports published in September 2022, the Home Minister of Australia, Clare O’Neil, announced that the country has increased its cap on migrants applying for Permanent Residency (PR).

The initial ceiling stood at 1,60,000. However, the number has increased by 35,000 and now stands at 1,95,000. This was done in the wake of the increasing labour shortages that the country was experiencing. The government also offers more than 70 visa programs for which immigrants can apply.

Extension In Post-Study Work Rights

In an exclusive interview with the Times of India in March 2023, Barry O’Farrell, High Commissioner of Australia in India, said that the government has increased the Post-Study Work (PSW) rights. A student completing their graduation in certain fields of studies has the right to stay and work in Australia for up to four years.

If you are applying for a master's degree, the cap is for five years from July 2023. This is a special extension for fields like STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) (Gender Gap In STEM). He added that the students can go beyond their field of studies and gain experience in Australia.

Indians Can Move To Australia Without Job

Indians can apply for the Skill Independent Visa Subclass 189, which is a scheme allowing applicants to move to Australia without a job offer. You heard it right. You do not need an offer or a sponsorship from an Australian company to migrate.

You have to fill in all the requisite details in the visa form and answer a few questions. Your application will be evaluated based on your work experience, skillets, education, age, and proficiency in the English language.
