Who Was Krishna Mukerji? Rani Mukerji's Mother Passes Away At 75

Rani Mukerji's mother, Krishna Mukerji, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 75. The news of her demise was confirmed by Yash Raj Films in an official statement, as the family requested privacy.

The statement read, "With heavy hearts, we share that Rani Mukerji's mother Mrs Krishna Mukerji, 75, passed away this afternoon. The family is deeply grateful for your love, prayers, and support, and respectfully requests privacy during this time of immense grief.”

Who was Krishna Mukerji? 

Though many people knew Krishna Mukerji as Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji's mother, she was a well-known celeb, especially in the Bengali film industry.

She worked as a playback singer and lent her voice to many Bengali and Hindi films. She married filmmaker Ram Mukerjee in 1972. She stepped away from the limelight early on but often accompanied her daughter to several events. 

Rani Mukerji often called her mother an inspiration and even expressed her gratitude to her for setting up a path in acting.

"So for my mother, it was like, 'You do it and see how it goes. Though after my first screen test, she found me so bad that she told the producer, ‘I think you’ll ruin your film by taking my daughter. You’ll go through losses. Better you don’t take her,’” Rani told ANI.

In another interview with Bollywood Bubble, Rani called her mother the inspiration behind Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.

She said, "Rani added, “For me, my mother has been one such character who has been with me right from childhood. I don’t remember a single day that I must’ve had without her in my life whether it’s even after marriage, even after me having Adira. My day starts with talking to my mom on the phone and that’s the first call I make. And that is what keeps me grounded the entire day, that is what keeps me going the entire day because for me it is important for me to know that she’s doing well.”
