In a candid interview with Humans of Bombay, actress Rhea Chakraborty opened up about the harrowing ordeal she faced in the aftermath of her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput's tragic death on June 14, 2020. Rhea shared the emotional and psychological challenges she endured, describing how her life was turned upside down as she became the target of relentless media scrutiny and public backlash.
Reflecting on this dark period, Rhea spoke about the trauma of losing a loved one while simultaneously being disgraced by the public. "I remember looking at myself in the mirror and saying, 'You're scared, right?' It almost felt like the mirror said yes," Rhea recounted. The intense media coverage and daily investigations took a heavy toll on her, with mobs gathering outside her home and cameras tracking her every move.

Rhea also provided insight into her time in police custody, describing it as a surreal experience that fundamentally changed her. "When I walked out of prison, I knew I would never be the same person again. Jail is actually a very different world because there's no society in jail. It's all about survival, you know? Every single day was about surviving. And each day felt like a year," she revealed.

The actress also opened up about the personal betrayals she faced, noting that not everyone around her was a true friend during those challenging times. The experience, she said, left her family shattered and Rhea admitted that she has not forgiven everyone involved in her ordeal. "I have not forgiven everybody. Some people are on my head now," she said.

Sharing her first two weeks experience in jail, Rhea said it was very difficult as she tried to adjust. It took her a while to accept what had happened. "My time in there was actually really difficult in the first two weeks to kind of adjust to this situation because no one ever believes that they are going to jail. Once you are in there, it takes a long time to understand that this has happened. There is a deep depression and darkness that I obviously experienced...You are really thinking negative thoughts now. I've always been a very bubbly, positive person, like delusionally optimistic," she added.
Recalling her fight against darkness, Rhea said she started doing dance and yoga to cope. Speaking about other women inmates, the Bollywood actress said some of them had lost all hope in their lives and given up. She decided to start teaching yoga and dance inside the jail, conducting classes for them.
