
Music maestro Rashid Khan breathed his last at a Kolkata hospital after a prolonged battle with cancer since the year 2022. The Padma Bhushan awardee was fifty five years old. His mortal remains will be kept in Peerless Hospital in Kolkata until 6 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Post which it will be sent to ‘Peace Haven’ in Kolkata for fans and admirers to pay their last respects. He will finally be laid to rest on January 10, 2024.
Music legend Rashid Khan died on January 9, 2024. He was undergoing a prolonged treatment for cancer and had been hospitalised since November 2022. He was fifty five years old when he breathed his last.
According to reports, his health deteriorated further after he suffered a cerebral attack in December 2023.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her condolences at the music maestro’s death. She mentioned that Ustad Rashid Khan will be honoured with a gun salute during his last rites tomorrow. His mortal remains will be kept at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata for last respects to be paid. The Hindustani classical music legend was the recipient of the Padma Bhushan award in the year 2022.

Rashid Khan was known for his soulful music, Throughout his career he received various accolades and awards including the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award amidst others, which recognised his contribution to Indian classical music.
His performances were held at prestigious music festivals and concerts across the globe. They solidified his position as a maestro of Hindustani classical music. He had even lent his melodious voice to popular Bollywood song, ‘Aoge Jab Tum’ that was picturised on Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor in the 2007 Imtiaz Ali directorial venture ‘Jab We Met’. Other songs in his repertoire include 'Aaj Koi Jogee Aave', 'Rishte Naate', 'Ishq Ka Rang', and many more.
