Who Is Lisa Marie Presley? Elvis Presley’s Only Daughter Passes Away At 54

Lisa Marie Presley, the American singer and songwriter and the only daughter of the legendary late singer and actor Elvis Presley, died on January 12, 2023 in Los Angeles after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 54.

According to international media reports, the late singer suffered cardiac arrest in her home in the Los Angeles suburb of Calabasas and was then taken to hospital on Thursday.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," her mother, Priscilla Presley, said in a statement. She further added, “She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss.”

Marie was born in 1968 to the rock-n-roll singer Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis in midtown Memphis, Tennessee. Marie expressed her love for theatrics after watching a Queen concert in the late 1970s. Her parents divorced when she was around four-years-old and she began staying with her mother with frequent stays at her father’s. Elvis died in August 1977 when Marie was merely nine-years-old and she became the joint heir to his Graceland mansion estate in Memphis, which is currently a tourist attraction.

Lisa Marie Presley’s Music Career

Marie’s music career began in April 2003 when she released her debut album To Whom It May Concern, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was certified gold in June 2003.

After co-writing and collaborating with Billy Corgan and Gus Black, Marie released her second album Now What in April 2005, which reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Throughout her career of nearly two decades, Marie has released three studio albums, nine singles, and nine music videos, among others most of which made it to the Billboard charts' top 50.

Honours Received by Lisa Marie Presley

Among the several accolades, Presley was officially honoured by the Governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam, who proclaimed a day of recognition for her charitable efforts. The Mayor of New Orleans, Mitchell J. Landrieu also issued a Certificate of Proclamation to Marie in recognition of her dedication and contributions to the city.

Lisa Marie Presley’s Personal Life

In a 2013 interview with The Huffington Post, Presley said that she might write an autobiography someday. "It's not out of the question. I would like to have my life out there in my own words, rather than speculations."

In a tragic incident, Maries’ son Benjamin Keough died in 2020 at the age of 27 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. In another interview with People, she said, “My and my three daughters' lives as we knew it were completely detonated and destroyed by his death. We live in this every. Single. Day.”

Marie is survived by her mother and her three children – twin daughters and son actor Riley Keough.
