Loss Of A Legend: Sajid Khan, 'Mother India' Actor, Loses Battle To Cancer

Known for his role in the iconic movie ‘Mother India’, actor Sajid Khan has died after fighting cancer for a long time. Other than ‘Mother India’ he played prominent roles in international projects such as ‘Maya’ and ‘The Singing Filipina’. The actor is laid to rest at the Kayakulam Town Juma Masjid in Kerela’s Alappuzha district.

Who Was Sajid Khan?

Sajid Khan was an Indian actor who rose to fame after his role in ‘Mother India’. As per reports he was an adopted child by Rajkumar Pitamber Rana and Sunita Pitamber and fostered by filmmaker Mehboob Khan. However, he was not active in films for a while and was engaged in philanthropy.  Other than Mother India he was a part of Mehboob Khan’s Oscar-nominated film ‘Son Of India’. 

Humble Beginnings

Sajid Khan’s childhood was spent in poverty. However, filmmaker Mehboob Khan identified Sajid’s talent and cast him in his movie. ‘Mother India’ was his debut movie (korean movies to watch) for which he received Rs 750 as fees. Sajid Khan got married in 1990 but eventually, he got divorced.

Rose To Stardom

Sajid Khan rose to stardom as a teen idol with his role in the film “Maya” where he played the role of a local boy ‘Rajji’ who befriends the Character played by Jay North. He also appeared as a guest in an episode of the American TV Show (hollywood movies on time travel) “ The Big Valley” and appeared as a guest judge in a music show titled “It’s Happening”. He was a popular name in the Philippines and worked in movies such as  “The Singing Filipina”, “My Funny Girl” and “The Prince and I” with actor Nora Aunor. He also played the role of dacoit chief in the Merchant-Ivory production “Heat and Dust”. As per reports, during his career, he worked with several prominent actors which include Nargis, Alan and Maurice King, Dick Clark, Sally Field, Shashi Kapoor, the Ramsey Brothers, Sal Mineo, R.D. Burman, Nora Aunor, and many more.
