Achieving that fresh-out-of-the-salon swish at home feels like the ultimate haircare dream, glossy, smooth, and effortlessly styled. Two names that have dominated the at-home salon promise are TRESemmé and L’Oréal Professional. As someone who takes hair rituals seriously, I put both to the test in real-world conditions. Here's my experience with fragrance, formulation, finish, and overall indulgence.
TRESemmé Vs L'Oréal Professional: Packaging And Fragrance
TRESemmé’s signature bottles with bold typography have become a drugstore classic. There’s a no-nonsense feel to the packaging, sleek and familiar, though they don’t have exactly a luxurious feel. The Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner, which I used for this review, have a warm, slightly sweet fragrance, bordering on floral vanilla. Pleasant, but faintly synthetic.
L’Oréal Professional, on the other hand, immediately elevates the aesthetic. The Serie Expert Absolut Repair range came in muted golden tones with a more tactile, salon-style finish. The fragrance? Sublime. A soft, creamy scent with botanical undertones, like something you'd inhale deeply in a high-end salon.
Verdict: L’Oréal wins on presentation and olfactory appeal, majorly because itfeels premium from the first pump.
TRESemmé Vs L'Oréal Professional:Texture AndApplication
The TRESemmé shampoo has a thinner consistency, lathers generously, and is easy to spread through my hair. The conditioner is creamier and works well, especially when left on for a couple of minutes. I noticed it detangles quite effectively, particularly on dry-prone ends. However, I felt that the products contributed to an increase in my drastic hairfall.
With L’Oréal Professional, the shampoo is denser and almost luxurious to the touch. It doesn't foam as much in the first go, which is common in more concentrated salon formulations, but cleanses thoroughly without stripping. The Absolut Repair conditioner (technically a resurfacing mask) is thicker and feels ultra-nourishing. My strands drank it in!
Verdict:L’Oréal’s formula is richer and feels like a salon ritual.
TRESemmé Vs L'Oréal Professional:Post-Wash Results
After drying, my hair with TRESemmé looked reasonably sleek. Frizz was reduced and there was a mild shine, though not quite that glassy salon finish. On day two, my hair started to feel a bit waxy at the roots, which meant I needed a dry shampoo refresher just after the hairwash day.
In contrast, the L’Oréal Professional range delivered on every front, shine, manageability, and moisture balance. My hair looked visibly healthier, especially at the ends, which often show signs of heat damage. It stayed fresh and voluminous well into day three, without needing any touch-ups.
Verdict: L’Oréal Professional offers a longer-lasting, visibly glossier finish. It genuinely mimics a salon blow-dry.
TRESemmé Vs L'Oréal Professional:Price Point AndValue for Money
TRESemmé isthe more budget-friendly option, with the combo kit, including theTresemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo (340ml),Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Conditioner (335ml),Tresemmé Keratin Smooth Deep Smoothing Mask (300ml), andTresemmé Keratin Smooth Serum (100ml),retailing around ₹1825.
L’Oréal Professional can be a splurge, with the Absolut Repair shampoo (300 ml)priced around ₹790, theAbsolut Repair mask (250 ml) priced at₹990, and theAbsolut Repair 10-in-1 oil priced at around₹1,390.But the formulation is more concentrated which means thatless product is needed per wash.
