The makeup trend of 2022 includes a neutral base with lips and cheeks highlighted in the same colour palette. While some opt for a monochromatic look, others go for no-makeup looks for a more flawless finish.
While this trend seems new, Bollywood actresses have been nailing it since the 90s. From Aishwarya Rai to Madhuri Dixit, the below images prove that these actresses were spot-on with their makeup game. Take a look.
Kajol Devgan

Kajol’s major hit in the 90s was Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. In most of the scenes, she opted for a natural makeup look while keeping her hair as is. In Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane, she was spotted gracing a turquoise green dress.
She opted for a neat but and wore green studded earrings to compliment the dress. But it was her makeup that stole the show. For cheeks and lips, the actress picked brown tones of blush and lipstick. For eyes, she donned a smoky eye shadow.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

While many actresses today wish to work with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aishwarya Rai had already produced a hit with him called Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Many of her attire and looks from the film are still relevant even today.
For one of her scenes, she wore a pastel-coloured lehenga and chose studded accessories to amplify the look. But with makeup, she kept the base in neutral tones with a tint of brown on her cheeks. She opted for brown lip colour and made her eyes pop with a smooth outline of black eyeliner.

In the Pyar Kar song she donned a sky blue evening gown and picked only bracelets and earrings. For makeup, she opted for brown lipstick and highlighted eyes by adding brown eyeshadow below the water line. For cheeks, the actress picked a soft tone of blush to keep it as natural as possible.

One of the biggest hits of the 90s was Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! Not only was Madhuri Dixit praised for her acting, but also reported to have received higher payment than the male lead Salman Khan.
In the Mausam Ka Jaadu song, Dixit was wearing a beautiful red maxi dress and flaunted her natural waves. She opted for gold jewellery to complete the look. In the song, the actress painted her lips with a brick red colour and added a bit of smoky texture to her eyes. She skipped kajal but applied eyeliner.

Raveena Tandon was another actress at the top of her career. Her casual dresses in films always impressed the fashion police of the time. For one of the scenes, she paired her blue outfit with a beaded necklace. The actress chose pink blush for cheeks, red lipstick and a dark shade for eyeshadow to add a hint of a smoky look.

Another 90s actress whom we loved watching on the screen was Rani Mukherjee. Her short appearance in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai won our hearts. For the introduction scene, the actress was spotted in a short yellow skirt and crop top. She left her hair straight open and opted for monochromatic makeup in brown tones.
