Astrologer Vats said “If you wear or want to wear the Tulsi Mala around your neck, you should follow the rules associated with it. For example, wearing too many Tulsi beads takes away the purity and divinity of the beads. Also, you have to give up using abusive language, meat, alcohol, etc.”

“According to ancient scriptures, you should only wear one garland of Tulsi beads around your neck and never more than that. However, you should not wrap it around your neck a single time but Tulsi Mala should always be put around the neck only after rotating it twice,” said the expert.

Also, you should not rotate it more than twice as that is considered inauspicious too. “If you are already wearing something around your neck like another locket, then do not wear Tulsi Mala. It is considered forbidden to wear anything with Tulsi Mala. If you are married, then only you can wear Mangalsutra with Tulsi Mala,” added the astrologer.

Once you have worn a Tulsi Mala, you should always keep it inside a cloth. Astrologer Vats said, “It should not be taken out of the cloth if removed from the neck. This makes the Mala impure.”
