In the heart of Puri, a sacred city in India, the grand annual spectacle is about to unfold. The Jagannath Rath Yatra, a revered festival honouring Lord Jagannath, captivates millions with its vibrant colours, spiritual fervour, and divine charm every year. Let us learn about the story and tradition from our expert, Rinhee Suberwal, astrologer, numerologist, tarot card reader, crystal healer, and past life regression therapist.

Rinhee said, "The Jagannath Rath Yatra is not just a religious procession, it's a cosmic movement." She also mentioned that this occasion symbolises the divine coming out to meet the devotee. In astrology, Lord Jagannath is believed to be associated with the Sun's energy (Surya Dev), the lord who illuminates truth and dispels darkness. "The Yatra reminds us that the divine is accessible, not distant," she added.

Suberwal explained that according to mythology, on the occasion of Jagannath Yatra, Lord Jagannath wishes to visit his maternal aunt’s house, the Gundicha Temple. "He travels with his siblings in beautifully crafted wooden chariots, each pulled by thousands of devotees. This journey, which spans nine days, is a reenactment of divine love and familial bonds," she shared.

This journey is also considered as the soul’s journey back to purity, in spirituality. "The chariot is symbolic of the body, the Lord is the soul, and the path represents our karmic journey. When we pull the chariot, we are helping ourselves move closer to liberation, Moksha," said Rinhee.

She highlighted that this is the time when Lord Jagannath comes out of his sanctum for everyone, no caste, class, or background matters. "It’s the only time when the divine meets people outside the temple walls. That’s incredibly powerful," she said.

The Jagannath Rath Yatra takes place in the month of Ashadha every year during Shukla Paksha Dwitiya (the second day of the waxing moon). This period is said to be of high cosmic energy. It’s a wonderful time for inner cleansing, meditation, and reaffirming your spiritual path.

Rinhee said that during this time, you should offer prayers to the Sun, chant the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra, or meditate on the image of Lord Jagannath. If you can't attend the festival or visit the temple, you can also create a small chariot at home and involve children in the ritual. "The point is to invoke divine joy and surrender in your heart," she concluded.
