Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, kicking off on Monday, is expected to be a game-changer for the tech giant's approach to artificial intelligence (AI). The event promises to showcase how AI can elevate everyday consumer products like the iPhone and Mac, as well as widely used apps, to new heights of intelligence and convenience.
According to previous reports, Apple is set to revamp its popular voice assistant, Siri, with the power of generative AI. This move aims to make Siri's responses more accurate, insightful, and aligned with natural language patterns used by users. As reported by AppleInsider, Apple is training Siri to understand "natural language" commands beyond the direct commands it currently recognises.
To achieve this, Apple is testing Siri by adding superfluous details along with the task the user is trying to accomplish. For instance, in addition to direct commands like "Show me pictures of my cat," Apple is also testing commands that relate to the user wanting to set up a blog or expressing emotions like feeling lazy or nostalgic.

AppleInsider has also revealed a comprehensive list of 18 first-party Apple apps that will be compatible with Siri's new AI capabilities. These include Camera, Books, Contacts, Mail, Safari, News, and Voice Memos, among others.
Siri may gain the ability to capture pictures and videos in iOS 18 using voice commands. Users could ask Siri to switch between front and rear cameras, toggle video recording, open the camera in a specific mode, and set a timer.
Siri could finally get the ability to segregate emails into categories like Commerce, News, Promotions, Social, and Transactions. It may also perform actions like identifying junk emails, sending and un-sending emails, creating drafts, blocking or muting senders, unsubscribing from emails, and generating summaries.
Siri is likely to handle various tasks within the Photos app, including editing, moving, and hiding pictures, identifying objects, opening specific pictures, adding photos to albums, applying filters, and more.
As Apple gears up to unveil its AI-powered innovations at WWDC 2024, users can look forward to a more intelligent and intuitive experience across their favourite Apple devices and apps.
