Veteran Actor Arun Bali Passes Away At 79

Swabhimaan fame Arun Bali passed away in Mumbai early this morning.

Arun Bali, the veteran actor who predominantly worked in the Hindi film and television industry for over three decades, passed away in Mumbai at 4.30 am on October 7, 2022 after suffering from Myasthenia gravis. He was 79.

The veteran actor’s son Ankush mentioned that Bali was suffering from the autoimmune disease caused by a communication failure between nerves and muscles and he was admitted to the hospital earlier this year for the same. Ankush further mentioned that despite responding well to the treatment, Bali succumbed eventually early this morning.

In a conversation with the PTI, Ankush said, “My father left us. He was suffering from Myasthenia gravis. He had mood swings for two-three days. He told the caretaker he wanted to go to the washroom and after coming out he told him he wanted to sit down and he never got up then.”

Hailing from a Punjabi Muhiyal Family, Bali was an actor, writer, and filmmaker who appeared in around 50 films and over 30 television serials. He made his TV debut with Doosra Kewal in 1989. He appeared as King Porus in the 1991 period drama Chanakya, Kunwar Singh in the 1995 Doordarshan soap opera Swabhimaan, and the 1991 film Saugandh among many other memorable shows and films.

He portrayed the Chief Minister of undivided Bengal, Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, in the controversial and critically acclaimed 2000 film Hey Ram. He also appeared in several critically acclaimed and commercially successful films including Maasoom, Phool Aur Angaar, Khalnayak, Yalgaar, Satya, and gradually became popular for his ‘grandfatherly’ roles such as the one of Harshvardhan Wadhwa in the popular Hindi daily soap Kumkum. Following which, he was loved by all for his roles in Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 Idiots, Barfi!, PK, Airlift, Baaghi, Baaghi 2, Manmarziyaan, Kedarnath, Panipat, Samrat Prithviraj. He last appeared in the recently released Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Laal Singh Chaddha. Bali was also a National Award-winning producer.

Tributes have poured in from the film fraternity and politicians across the country on social media following Bali’s demise.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit wrote, “Sad to know about the demise of veteran actor & a great human being #ArunBali ji who was not keeping well for some time . My heartfelt condolences to his family and near ones. A great loss to the T.V. & film industry. ॐ शांति !”

Producer Girish Johar wrote, “Irrepairable Loss A very fine talent & a gem of a person ...RIP Arun Bali ji(sic)”

Politician Neelkant Bakshi wrote, “Sad to know Shri Arun Bali Ji is no more. Deepest condolences to the bereaved family ॐ शान्ति शान्ति”
