In a significant advancement for India's defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted the second phase of its Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system test. This milestone marks a pivotal moment in enhancing India’s national security and demonstrates the country’s growing prowess in advanced defence technologies.
India successfully conducted a flight test of the second phase of its ballistic missile defence system, showcasing its domestic capability to counter hostile missiles with a range of up to 5,000 km on July 24, 2024. The test carried out at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha, met all the objectives set for the trial. According to the Defense Ministry, the test validated the effectiveness of the entire network-centric warfare weapon system.
DRDO in a statement shared, “The Target Missile was launched from LC-IV Dhamra at 1620 hrs mimicking an adversary ballistic missile, which was detected by weapon system radars deployed on land and sea and activated the Air Defence (AD) interceptor system. The Phase-II AD endo-atmospheric missile was launched from LC-III at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur at 1624 hr.”
