The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on December 22 announced its shortlists in 10 categories at the upcoming Oscars 2023. The Indian films shortlisted for the upcoming Oscars include The Elephant Whisperers under the Best Documentary Short Film, Chhello Show under the Best International Feature Film, All That Breathes under the Best Documentary Film, and the Naattu Naatu song from SS Rajamouli’s RRR under the Best Original Score.
The upcoming 95th Oscars 2023 is set to premiere on March 12, 2023.

Chhello Show (The Last Show)
The 2021 Indian Gujarati language coming-of-age drama Chhello Show (The Last Show) has been shortlisted for the Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards. The film stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, and Paresh Mehta. The film premiered at the 20th Tribeca Film Festival on June 10, 2021, and released at the theatres in India on October 14 this year. The film revolves around a nine-year-old boy named Samay hailing from Chalala, a hamlet in Gujarat who spends his entire summer watching films from the projection booth of a rundown movie place.

Chhello Show will compete with 14 other films in the category including Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Decision to Leave (South Korea), All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Close (Belgium), and The Blue Caftan. (Morocco).
All That Breathes
Directed by Shaunak Sen, All That Breathes has been shortlisted for the Best Documentary Film at the 95th Oscars. Based in Delhi, the film follows two siblings – Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad – who have devoted their lives to rescuing injured birds, especially the Black Kites, and getting them treated. The film became the talk of the town when it won the Golden Eye award for Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival 2022. It has also won the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Documentary at the Sundance Film Festival 2022.

The Elephant Whisperers
The Elephant Whisperers is a touching Tamil documentary short film that brought to life the unbreakable bond between humans and animals through the story of two abandoned elephants and their caretakers.

To make it to the Oscar nominations, the film has to compete with The Flagmakers, Nuisance Bear, Shut Up and Paint, Angola Do You Hear Us? Voices from a Plantation Prison, Anastasia, and nine other documentary short films from all over the world.
