The Bhootnii Box Office Collection Day 1: Sanjay Dutt's Horror Film Opens To A Weak Start

Maddock’s Supernatural Universe has firmly established its hold on the horror-comedy genre with recent hits like ‘Stree 2’ and ‘Munjya.’ Now, the trend is catching fire across Bollywood, with Sanjay Dutt jumping in with his latest offering, ‘The Bhootnii.’ Promising a mix of eerie chills, sharp humour, and a surprising touch of romance, the film aims to rekindle audiences' love for spooky comedies. But how did it fare on its opening day? Let’s take a look at the Day 1 box office figures.

'The Bhootnii' Box Office Collection Day 1

According to Sacnilk, ‘The Bhootnii’ had a sluggish start at the box office, managing to earn only ₹0.65 crore on its opening day. While online audiences are showing some support, reviews on X have been mixed overall. The film faced tough competition from 'Raid 2,' which also released on May 1, 2025, starring Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, and Vaani Kapoor.

Though 'Raid 2' has also received mixed feedback, it’s clearly ahead in terms of box office numbers. In contrast, 'The Bhootnii' has been met with largely negative reviews, and its Day 1 performance suggests a rocky road ahead. With earnings struggling to even touch the ₹1 crore mark, the film is off to a disastrous start. However, a strong weekend pickup could still turn things around though it may take more than just spooky charm to make that happen.

Set around the quirky tradition of the annual Virgin Tree Pooja (inspired by the real-life ritual at Hindu College, Delhi), ‘The Bhootnii’ weaves a spooky story with a romantic twist. Legend has it, anyone who prays to the tree on Valentine’s Day finds their true love. Enter Shantanu (Sunny Singh), a heartbroken college student reeling from a breakup, who desperately wishes for love—only to have it arrive in the most unexpected form: Mohabbat, a ghost (played by Mouni Roy).

Written and directed by Sidhaant Sachdev, the film taps into familiar horror-comedy territory, drawing heavily from the 'Stree' playbook—complete with a vengeful spirit, a goofy group of friends, and punchy one-liners. There’s even a cheeky nod to Naagin, a fun wink to Mouni Roy’s iconic TV role.
