Diwali is today, Sunday, November 8, and the Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja happens this evening. The last thing anyone wants is to run out of something halfway through the puja. So here is the full samagri list, sorted by what goes where, so you can tick everything off before sunset. From lotus flowers and singhara to silver coins, these are the must-have items for Diwali 2026 Lakshmi Puja. Keep this list handy before the muhurat begins.

25+ Essential Items To Keep Ready For Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja

Here is the complete samagri list with every item you need, sorted by what goes where.

1. Puja Chowki

Idols or framed pictures of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh come first. Many families also add Kuber and Goddess Saraswati. Place them on a wooden chowki covered with a fresh red or yellow cloth.

You will also need a copper or brass kalash. Fill it with water, add a few drops of Ganga jal, and place mango leaves around the mouth. A coconut wrapped in red cloth sits on top.

2. Tilak And Pooja Essentials For Diwali

Keep roli, kumkum, haldi, chandan and akshat (unbroken rice) ready for tilak. Moli or kalawa, the red-yellow sacred thread, is tied around the kalash and sometimes on the wrist.

3. Shringar Items For Goddess Lakshmi

Sindoor, a small mirror, a comb and a set of bangles are offered to the goddess as shringar. Not every household does this, but it is common in many homes.

4. Flowers, Leaves And Other Puja Items

Marigold flowers and garlands are the safest pick for Diwali. Lotus is considered special for Goddess Lakshmi, so keep a few if you can find them. Durva grass is meant for Lord Ganesh.

Betel leaves, whole supari, cloves and cardamom go on the thali as well. Lotus seeds (kamal gatta) and cowrie shells (kauri) are also linked with Lakshmi puja and are easy to find in puja stores this week.

5. Diyas, Incense And Aarti Items

You need clay diyas, cotton wicks, and ghee or mustard oil. Many people light one ghee diya near the idols and the rest around the house. Add incense sticks, dhoop, camphor and a matchbox.

An aarti thali, a small bell and a conch shell, if you have one, complete the set. Keep a few extra wicks handy. Diyas tend to burn through faster than expected.

6. Prasad And Bhog Items For Lakshmi Puja

Khil (puffed rice), batasha, laddoo and other mithai are the traditional offerings. Fresh fruits, dry fruits, makhana, sugarcane and singhara (water chestnut) are also placed before the deities. Singhara is especially popular during Diwali puja in north India.

For the abhishek, prepare panchamrit with milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar. Keep a small bowl of clean water and a spoon next to it.

7. Money And Valuables For Diwali Puja

Silver or gold coins, currency notes and jewellery are placed in front of the idols. Traders and business owners also keep their account books and cash box for the puja. Some families bring home a new broom around Dhanteras and keep it ready too.

Wash the puja thali and diyas beforehand. Draw a small rangoli near the chowki with rangoli colours or flower petals. Keep matchsticks, extra cotton, tissues and a small cloth for wiping within reach.

Check the muhurat for your city and keep all samagri ready at least an hour earlier. That way the puja stays calm and nobody is running to the kitchen for sweets in the middle of the aarti.
