Two days before its release, Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part One has crossed Rs 100 crore in worldwide advance bookings. The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, arrives in cinemas on November 5. It wasn't always smooth, though. Here's how the pre-sales story played out.

Ramayana Advance Booking Collection: Worldwide And India Numbers

As of Tuesday morning, the film had made around Rs 105 crore in advance gross worldwide. India alone contributed about Rs 58 crore, and Rs 27 crore of that came from opening day bookings. Days two and three added another Rs 25 crore, while Sunday's shows were only just opening up. Almost 15 lakh tickets have been sold across India. Premium formats like IMAX make up nearly a quarter of sales, even though they hold just 4 per cent of screens, according to reports by Sacni.

Why Ramayana Pre-Sales Started Slow And Then Picked Up?

Bookings opened on Dussehra, about two weeks before release. Day one looked strong, and then things went quiet. Hindustan Times reports that for around 10 days, mostly the Hindi version had shows open. Single-screen and smaller centres stayed shut because the distributors and exhibitors were negotiating over revenue share. That deadlock ended last Friday, and more screens were added over the weekend. By Tuesday morning, the film had over 5,000 screens, with more than 1,500 of them added in the last 24 hours alone.

Ramayana Overseas Advance Booking: What The Numbers Say?

The film has earned $5 million in overseas advance bookings so far. Over $1.5 million of that comes from paid previews in the US alone. North America gets paid previews on November 4, a day before the release. HT also reports that collections jumped 27 per cent in the 24 hours after the world premiere.

Is Ramayana Heading For A Record Opening?

Crossing Rs 100 crore in advance bookings is rare for an Indian film. Only a handful, including Baahubali 2, RRR, Pushpa 2 and Dhurandhar 2, have managed it. Going by the current trend, the film is aiming for a top-5 all-time opening day, according to HT. With the whole weekend seeing strong demand and not just opening day, the real numbers will be clear once Thursday's collections come in.

Ramayana's Budget

Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra and will be released by Dharma in India and Sony Pictures internationally. The story is planned in two parts. The second one will be releasing around 2027. The two films carry a reported budget of Rs 835 crore, which would make them the most expensive Indian films ever made.
