After much anticipation, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is set to release in theatres on Friday worldwide. Based on the epic story of Odysseus, several Hollywood stars will be seen in pivotal roles. Even though the story centres around Odysseus, the story features strong female protagonists, who are still considered some of the best-written characters. Popular names like Anne Hathaway and Zendaya will be seen in these roles.

1. Anne Hathaway as Penelope

Anne Hathaway will play Odysseus's wife and the queen of Ithaca, who is eagerly waiting for her husband to return after the war. She also refuses several suitors while waiting for her husband.

2. Lupita Nyong'o as Helen Of Troy and Clytemnestra

Lupita Nyong'o will play the dual role of twin sisters: Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. Her character has a pivotal part in the storyline as Helen of Troy's abduction is the reason behind the Trojan War.

3. Zendaya as Athena

Zendaya plays Athena,  the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and handicraft. In the story, she is seen protecting Odysseus throughout his journey back home.

4. Charlize Theron as Calypso

Charlize Theron will be seen as Calypso, who pursues Odysseus to be her immortal husband. She is a deity from the island of Ogygia.

Mia Goth will be seen as Melantho, who is a servant of Penelope and Odysseus but is disloyal.

6. Samantha Morton as Circe

Samantha Morton will be seen as Circe, who is a witch and a goddess from the island of Aeaea.

Talking about other characters, Matt Damon is seen as Odysseus with Tom Holland as Telemachus, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Charlize Theron as Calypso, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Bill Irwin as Polyphemus, Elliot Page as Sinon, among others.

What is The Odyssey about?

The Odyssey is based on Homer's ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey. The story follows Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, and his long and difficult journey home after the Trojan War.
