Vijay Salgaonkar is coming back tomorrow, 2 October, and the wait is finally over. Before Drishyam: The Conclusion hits the theatres, here is a quick refresher of everything that happened in the first two films.
Drishyam Part 1 Recap: What Happened To Sameer?
Vijay Salgaonkar is a Class 4 fail cable operator in Goa who loves films more than anything. He lives a simple life with his wife Nandini and their two daughters, Anju and Anu. Things change when Sam, the son of IG Meera Deshmukh, starts blackmailing Anju with an objectionable video. In a moment of panic, Anju accidentally kills him in self-defence.

Vijay does what he does best. Instead of going to the police, he plans an alibi using everything he has learnt from movies. The family was in Panjim on 2 October, they went to a church, ate pav bhaji, watched a film and even stayed at a hotel. He made them repeat this story again and again, and he kept the bills as proof.
Meera was not ready to give up. Her team questioned the family, and the police even got rough with the kids. Still, the story held. The biggest twist came when Vijay moved Sam's body from his backyard and buried it under the Goa police station that was being built at that time. His logic was simple: no one would ever dig up their own building. The film ended with Meera and Mahesh learning that Sam was gone, and the case was closed.
Drishyam 2 Recap: What Happened After The First Film?
The sequel picked up seven years later. Vijay is now a theatre owner who dreams of producing his own film, while the family still lives with the fear of that night. Anju, in particular, is shaken. Things get tense again when a new IG, Tarun Ahlawat, reopens the case at Meera's request. Not only that, a criminal named David saw Vijay near the construction site that night, and he tipped off the police.
Tarun also placed two undercover cops, Jenny and Shiv, to keep an eye on the family. Under pressure, Vijay even confessed to the murder, and the police dug up the remains. But it was all part of a bigger plan. A novel called Drishyam, which mirrored the whole case, had already been written by Vijay's friend Murad. Vijay's lawyer argued that the police had simply copied the plot of the book to frame him. The DNA test also did not match, since Vijay had swapped the remains with a similar skeleton.
The film ended on an emotional note. Vijay anonymously handed over Sam's ashes to Meera and Mahesh so they could finally perform the last rites. Mahesh found some peace and asked Meera to let go of her anger.
What To Expect From Drishyam: The Conclusion
Ajay Devgn is back as Vijay, with Tabu, Shriya Saran and Rajat Kapoor returning. Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat join the cast, and Abhishek Pathak directs again. Unlike the first two films, which were remakes of the Malayalam originals, this one is based on a completely new story. So Vijay's next move is anyone's guess.
