72nd National Film Awards 2026 will take place at Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, against the backdrop of the Statue of Unity. The ceremony will begin at 3 pm on September 22 and will be available to watch online via the DD National YouTube channel.
The awards will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu to the winners. The ceremony will honour achievements in Indian cinema for 2024, with 92 winners receiving awards across various categories.

What is different about the National Film Awards 2026?
This is the first time that the National Film Awards 2026 will be held in Gujarat and that too near the Statue of Unity. This is a new step by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and is described by the government as being in the spirit of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.
Who are the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards?
Dadasaheb Phalke Award will be given to veteran Kannada actor Anant Nag for his contribution to cinema. Coming back to other major awards, Article 370 won Best Feature Film; Randeep Hooda bagged Best Debut Film of a Director for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar; Kalki 2898 AD won Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Best Children's Film for 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu, and Amaran for Best Direction.

Kartik Aaryan and Mammootty will share Best Actor in a Leading Role, followed by Yami Gautam for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Sanjay Mishra for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, and Sachana Namidass and Roopashree Varkady for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Abhay Jodhpurkar and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi won Best Male Playback Singer and Best Female Playback Singer, respectively.
