It is well known that sleep is a pivotal part of your good health, but with the increase in hectic lifestyles in the modern world, it can become difficult to achieve that. Many people are not aware of how their small habits are ruining their sleep quality. We have a few suggestions you can follow to improve your sleep.
Everyday Things You Should Stop Doing For Better Sleep
Here are a few habits you should avoid before sleeping to get a good quality of sleep.
1. Scrolling Your Phone in Bed
Scrolling through your phone can feel addicting but you may not know how the blue light from your screen is ruining your sleep. The blue light from your phone stops melatonin production, causing your brain to think that it is still daytime. Stop using screens at least 60 minutes before sleep.
2. Drinking Coffee After 4 PM
Caffeine stays in your system for a longer period of time. The evening chai or coffee can be the reason you are struggling to sleep even after midnight.
3. Taking Long Afternoon Naps
Afternoon naps can feel comforting, but a long nap can disturb your entire sleep cycle. 20-30 mins of nap can be helpful, but 2-3 hours will destroy your night sleep.
4. Drinking Too Much Water Right Before Bed
Hydration is a good habit, but too much water can lead to 2-3 trips to the washroom at night. This can disturb your sleep cycle.
5. Irregular Sleep Time
If you happen to sleep at 10 PM on one day and then at 2 AM the very next day, your mind and body get confused. Fix one time to sleep and follow it everyday.

6. Spicy or Sugary Dinner
If you happen to eat spicy or sugary food late at night, your body is trying to digest food instead of resting and sleeping. Have a light dinner at least 2-3 hours before you sleep.
7. Working or Eating in Your Bed
If your bed is also your work table and dining table, it is time to stop that. This can confuse your brain, as it needs to associate it with rest, not work. Keep the bed only for sleeping.
8. Checking the Time Again and Again
If you are constantly checking the time while trying to sleep, it can create anxiety and will make it much harder to fall asleep.
Conclusion:
If you happen to follow some of these habits, do not stress. Take time to develop or stop new habits by only following 2-3 of the tips in the beginning.
