By Air: The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, Indore. Flights run regularly from Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Hyderabad. The airport is about 55km away from the temple; thus, the road trip takes 1-1.5 hours by taxi or cab. The cab fare roughly costs around ₹800- ₹1500.

By Rail: Ujjain is a railway station on the Western Railway zone and its code is UJN. Trains are available from many cities. From the Ujjain Junction, the temple is a simple 20-minute walk.

Best Time To Visit Ujjain

  2. Shravan Mass (July to August): The best season to witness Mahakaal is during the shravan. You will be able to witness vibrant temple decor and the year’s most iconic celebrations. Also, it is extremely crowded, so book the Bhasam Aarti in advance. 
  3. Maha Shivratri (February/March): At this time of the year, the temple is decorated beautifully. Darshan queues extend for long hours. VIP Darshan is recommended.
