In the interview, we are often asked, “‘Why this company?’ or ‘Why do you want to join this company?’ or ‘Why do you want to work at our company?’” It seems to be the favourite question of employers during an interview.

Therefore, we reached out to people from human resource departments, founders and CEOs to find out what they really look forward to in an answer to this query. Here is what they had to say.

‘Draw A Parallel Between Their Aspirations & The Company Vision’

draw parallel between aspiration and company vision

Razia Ali, Founder of Blendverse said that the most common answer she had heard is, “I like to challenge myself, and this position seems like it will enable me to prove my skill set."

However, she suggests the interviewee must draw a parallel between their aspirations and the company's vision. They should be able to convince the employer that the person sitting in front of them is the right fit for the job role. After that, they can talk about their skill set, what they bring to the table and how they can contribute to the growth of the company.”

‘Talk About The Industry & The Company Instead Of Personal Growth’

talk about company growth

Archit Garg, Co-Founder of Glamyo Health, said that when people sit for an interview in the healthcare sector, they often reply, “Why this company”, with “a career in the healthcare sector comes with greater earning potential and job security”.

However, the interviewee must focus on how the healthcare industry can make an actual difference in the life of people. The person must talk about the learning opportunities they will get if they would get hired by the company.

He added, “The person must talk about working closely with founders and leaders that will help them get an unprecedented look into the realities of the business world.”

‘How Well The Candidate Aligns With Company’s Value, Mission & Culture’

allignment with company values and mission

Aarfa Shaikh, Associate Director - People Success at Bizongo, said when an employer asks this question, they are looking for a “candidate that aligns with the company's values, mission, and culture”.

The assessment depends on whether the interview is for the higher or lower positions. For a high position vacancy, Shaikh added that the candidate is evaluated for their alignment with the vision of the company and how much they can contribute.

However, for the lower level, the Associate Director mentioned that the employers are looking to understand the aspirations of the person. They want to see how much the person knows about the company and how much the job role matters to them.

Shaikh added, “A good answer should demonstrate that the candidate has researched the company, is passionate about the position, and understands the company's values. An effective response might include a few specific examples of how the candidate's skill set and experience align with the company's needs and how they feel they could make a positive contribution to the organisation.”

‘Showcase Passion And Authenticity’

Nidhi Sidhana, Director at PRtainment Media & Communications, said the reason most employers ask this staple question is that most candidates apply for the job role blindly. Therefore, an answer to this question helps them understand the mindset and confidence of the person sitting in front of them.

Sidhana added, “We want to make sure that the candidate has done the research on the company, and that his core values match the objectives of the company.” She advises people to do thorough research about the job (tips to ace telephonic interview) description, the company and the core functionality.

‘Communicate Your Focus Towards The Nature Of Work’

communicate focus towards work

Mayurakshi Das, Founder of Elixir AI, said the candidate must be able to communicate their focus towards the nature of work. They should be able to tell what attracted them to the company, which means they must be thorough with their research and have been through and through the website of the company.
