Meet Avi Azulay, The Actor Behind Moses In 'Testament: The Story Of Moses'

Netflix's new three-part docudrama, ‘Testament: The Story of Moses,’ produced by Karga7, explores the life journey of the biblical figure Moses, focusing on his transformation. The series weaves together the narrative from the Book of Exodus with dramatic reenactments, placing Israeli actor Avi Azulay in the spotlight as Moses.

Who is Avi Azulay?

Azulay's acting experience is primarily based in Israel. He graduated from an acting studio founded by Yoram Levinstein between 2011 and 2014. Further developing his skills, he studied the Chebek acting method with Ivana Chebek in 2018. That same year, he broadened his horizons by attending a "plastic drama" movement workshop in Moscow, Russia.

Following a common path for many Hollywood actors, Azulay began his career on the stage. His talent was discovered by his current agent, Shirly Peterman, while he was performing at the prestigious Gesher Theater in Israel.

Azulay has built an impressive stage repertoire, including notable roles like Cassio in ‘Othello’ (2015), Stefan in ‘The Slave’ (2019), and Christian in ‘Cyrano’ (2024).

Peterman, clearly impressed by Azulay's talent, described discovering him on her Instagram in early March, celebrating their five-year collaboration. She reminisced about being captivated by his performance, stating, "I just saw a star in front of me. And I knew it was bingo. I was lucky and got to represent him."

Azulay's Screen Career

While ‘Testament: The Story of Moses’ marks a significant turning point, Azulay has built a growing filmography.

He began with small roles in projects like ‘Love Birds’ and ‘Bney Or.’ In 2020, he gained wider recognition with a 10 episode stint on the Israeli series ‘Manayek,’ portraying the character of Bari the dealer.

Azulay then went on to star in four episodes of the 2023 series ‘East Side,’ which follows a former Secret Service agent navigating the complexities of real estate deals amidst tensions between Arabs and Jews in East Jerusalem.

Azulay's talents extend far beyond acting. He is a skilled musician with experience in singing and dubbing. Additionally, he is a dedicated dancer, particularly adept in modern styles like hip-hop.

Upcoming Project

Azulay's next project is 'Jerusalem '67', a film confirmed for development by Variety. The story revolves around a civilian's experiences during the Six-Day War in Israel in 1967.
