Basant Panchami and Saraswati Puja 2025: Do’s and Don’ts
Basant Panchami/Saraswati Puja 2025:What To Do?
- Wearing yellow is considered highly auspicious on this day. Yellow symbolizes wisdom, prosperity, and the positive influence of Jupiter. Devotees should also offer yellow flowers such as marigolds or mustard flowers to Goddess Saraswati, as they enhance learning and creativity.
- Chanting Saraswati Vandana and mantras like "Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah" are believed to strengthen focus and concentration. It is also recommended to place books, pens, musical instruments, or any tools of learning near Saraswati’s idol as a gesture of devotion.
- Charity plays an essential role on Basant Panchami. Donating yellow food such as chana dal, turmeric, and yellow rice, or offering food to the needy, is believed to bring divine blessings. Feeding cows, birds, and stray animals on this day is also considered beneficial for improving planetary alignments related to knowledge and wisdom.
- As this day is an Abhuj Muhurat (a highly favourable time), it is ideal for initiating new ventures, taking important exams, applying for jobs, or starting any new learning process.
Basant Panchami/Saraswati Puja 2025:What Not To Do?
- Dark-coloured clothing, especially black, is best avoided on Basant Panchami, as it does not align with the positive vibrations of the day. It is also advised not to cut nails or hair, as this is believed to diminish intellectual energy and Saraswati’s blessings.
- Since this is a day of purity and devotion, consuming non-vegetarian food, alcohol, or foods containing onion and garlic is discouraged. Engaging in arguments, gossiping, or speaking lies on this day is also believed to attract negative karma, disrupting personal and professional success.
- Financially, lending money on Basant Panchami is thought to bring unnecessary expenses and financial instability throughout the year. Additionally, books and study materials should not be placed on the floor or in untidy spaces, as they are considered sacred and must be treated with respect.
- As Saraswati is the goddess of arts and creativity, engaging in activities like music, painting, writing, or any artistic pursuit is highly recommended. Ignoring creative expression on this day is seen as a missed opportunity to align with her divine energy.
"Basant Panchami is a time to embrace wisdom, seek clarity, and strengthen one’s connection with learning and creativity. By following these simple do’s and don’ts, individuals can align themselves with the positive energies of the festival and invite prosperity, success, and intellectual growth into their lives," concluded Dr Sahni.
