Gurudwara Shri Hemkund Sahib is a Sikh place of worship and pilgrimage site in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. Here is everything you need to know if you plan on visiting.
Location
Hemkund Sahib, one of the 508 important pilgrimages for Sikhs, is a well-known Sikh shrine at a distance of 18 km from Govind Ghat.
Tourist Attraction
The place has a very picturesque view and is an attraction for tourists and trekkers. It is a 13 km trek from the Govind Ghat to Ghangaria on foot. There is an option to travel by helicopter to the base for visiting Hemkund, Ghangaria.
Religious Belief
The Gurudwara is dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru and was built in the mid-1960s on the shores of the pristine Hemkund Lake. the Sikhs believe that Guru Gobind Singh meditated here for a long time.
Accommodation
There is a restriction on overnight stays so you’re required to leave by 2 PM and make it back to Govind Ghat by nightfall. There are a few hotels, another Gurudwara and a campground with tents and mattresses for accommodation.

There is a 5 km long famous Valley of Flowers at about 3 km trek from Ghangharia. You can also visit Badrinath which is situated 42 km from there and Joshimath is about 36 km.
Accessibility
Due to snow-bound paths and glaciers, the place is inaccessible between October to April. The damages to the path and the shrine are repaired in May and are made accessible. The best time to visit would be Mid-June to Mid-July.
