Navratri is an auspicious nine-day long festival when devotees worship Goddess Durga and her different forms. Many people also observe fasting for nine days. It is believed that one should follow certain things during fasting. Here is a list of do’s and don’ts during Navratri.
Milk & Dairy Products
During Navratri fasting, people like to consume dairy products like milk, curd, buttermilk and sweet lassi. You can consume all these dairy products as they will keep you hydrated.
Avoid These Food Items
If you are observing a fast for nine days then must avoid eating fast food, packed food items, rice flour, cornflour and tamsik food items. One should also stay away from alcoholic beverages.
No Flour & Grains
Food items made out of rice and wheat flour are restricted during Navratri fasting and one is advised to eat food items made out of kuttu ka atta (buckwheat flour) or singhare ka atta (water chestnut flour).
Do Not take Haircut
Navratri days are considered an auspicious time, so people should avoid cutting hair or nails during these nine days.
Practice Celibacy
People who are observing fast are advised to practice celibacy during these nine days of Navratri.
