Why is rice prohibited?

    According to legends, those who eat rice on the day of Ekadashi are born from the vagina of a crawling creature in their next life.

Maharishi Medha Was Born

    Maharishi Medha had sacrificed his body to avoid the anger of Mother Shakti. The body got absorbed in the earth, and later Medha was born in the same place in the form of rice and barley, which are considered to be living beings.

Another Reason

    It is believed that eating rice on the day of Ekadashi is equivalent to consuming the flesh and blood of Maharishi Medha.

Astrological Belief

    The amount of water element in rice is high. So eating rice increases the amount of water in the body, due to which the mind can become distracted.
