Xiaomi is preparing a major change to its foldable strategy with the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold, which is expected to debut in China in September. The biggest development is now confirmed: the foldable will be among the first phones powered by Xiaomi’s new Xring O3 processor, built on TSMC’s 3nm process. Reports also point to a wider, more square inner display, a 200MP camera and a battery of around 6,000mAh.
Xiaomi 18 Fold Price and Launch in India
Xiaomi has not announced the official price yet, but reports suggest the phone will debut in China in September 2026. The device has appeared under different names, including Xiaomi 18 Fold and Mix Fold 5, so its final branding remains uncertain. Current information also suggests that the foldable could remain a China exclusive model, with no confirmed India or global launch date.
Xring O3 Will Be the Biggest Upgrade
The Xring O3 could be the main reason the Xiaomi 18 Fold stands apart from other foldables. Xiaomi has officially introduced the chip, which is manufactured by TSMC using a 3nm process. It contains around 24 billion transistors. Xiaomi is also targeting 200,000 to 300,000 shipments for the foldable powered by the new processor.
This also gives the 18 Fold a different identity from rivals using Qualcomm or MediaTek processors. Xiaomi is effectively using its foldable as a showcase for its growing in house chip business.
A Wider Foldable Instead of a Tall Design
The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to move away from the tall, narrow shape used by earlier Mix Fold models. Leaked images point to a wider, almost passport like design, with reports suggesting an inner display around the 4:3 aspect ratio. This could make the unfolded screen more useful for documents, browsing and multitasking.
Reports also point to a 7.5 to 7.6 inch class inner OLED display and a roughly 6.5 inch cover screen, although Xiaomi has not confirmed the panel specifications.
200MP Camera, Large Battery and HyperOS 4
Camera leaks suggest a 200MP main sensor with Leica branding, while the battery is reportedly around 6,000mAh. These specifications remain unconfirmed, so they should not be treated as final.
The phone is also expected to run HyperOS 4, with leaked live images already showing the upcoming foldable running Xiaomi’s next software generation.
What makes the Xiaomi 18 Fold different?
The interesting part is not simply the larger battery or camera. Xiaomi appears to be combining its own 3nm processor, a wider foldable format and new HyperOS software in one device. The reported 24 billion transistor Xring O3 and Xiaomi’s limited initial shipment target also suggest that the 18 Fold could serve as an important test for the company’s next generation of home grown flagship hardware.
