Many people who own tablets feel that after a few uses their batteries start draining fast. It can be due to primary reasons like high refresh rate displays and background AI processing, but plugging your tablet to a charger after every few hours is not the solution. For this issue, to save your screen and double your runtime, you must enable adaptive refresh rates, switch to dark mode on OLED panels and restrict AI tasks running in the background. For the modern tablet user, the real challenge is the hidden software that drains most of the battery without your knowledge. In such cases, here are some of the tips that you can follow to save your table from dying faster.
Managing the High Refresh Rates
Most of the time tablets with a high refresh rate have faster battery drain than standard models. While this high refresh rate makes the scrolling smooth, it forces the screen to refresh 144 times every second even when you are reading a static text. This can cause more energy use and can lead to battery drain.
The Hack: To resolve this issue, go to Settings, then Display and Motion smoothness and select Adaptive or Standard (60Hz) refresh rate. Adaptive mode is the smart choice as it drops the refresh rate to 1 Hz when you are looking at a photo but raises it when you are engaged in the fast paced gaming.
Bonus Tip: I usually keep my tablet on 60 Hz for 90% of my work as no matter how good the 144 Hz looks, I would prefer an extra two hours of battery life, especially when I am not in a state to charge my tablet again and again.

Buy NowUse Pitch Black Wallpapers on OLED Screens
As most of the modern tablets have an OLED or AMOLED screen, these screens work by turning off individual pixels to show black.
The Hack: Instead of using the Dark Mode, you can use a wallpaper that is solid black as these black pixels consume zero power and can save your energy to a late extent.
Bonus Tip: I switched to a pure black home screen with a minimalist design which not only looks classy but also saves my battery and gives me an extra time of almost 45 minutes.

2026 is the year of the AI tablets and your device is mostly using its NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to summarize documents and predict your next app choice in the background.
The Hack: To manage the AI tasks running in the background, go to the Settings, then AI Features and choose Background Processing. Limit AI indexing to when charging only. By preventing the AI from analyzing even while not using the tablet, you stop the NPU from generating heat and draining the battery when you aren't even using the device.
Bonus Tip: AI is good for processing but to stop it from working overtime, I index it only on Wi-Fi and power to keep my tablet cool and my battery full.

Buy NowDisable Always On Display Mode
While the Always On Display is preferred for checking the time, it can drain 1% to 2% of your battery every single hour. And while you are using your tablet for 9 hour shift, it will take 20% of your battery for nothing.
The Hack: Turn off AOD or set it to Tap to Show. This setting gives you information like date and time when you need it without constantly draining the battery.
Bonus Tip: Close your AOD feature and lift your tablet to check any kind of time and notification. In this way, you can save the battery of your tablet for extra hours.

Buy NowSwitch 5G to LTE Only in Low Signal Areas
Many latest models of tablets come with the feature of 5G connectivity which means if you are in a weak 5G signal, your tablet will still keep you connected. However, this will generate heat and drain battery life.
The Hack: If you are not downloading massive files, go to Network Settings and switch your preferred network to LTE/4G from 5G. As the LTE signals are mostly stable, they will use less power than the 5G.
Bonus Tip: As I live in an area with a weak signal, my tablet keeps hunting for 5G connectivity and gets warm while doing nothing. For this, I have switched to LTE which saves power for me on a daily basis.

Every time your tablet vibrates when you type or receive a notification, a tiny motor physically spins inside the device.
The Hack: For this, you can turn off the System Haptics and Keyboard Vibration which saves your power every single time you interact with the screen.
Bonus Tip: I actually find tablet vibrations a bit distracting, especially on a large device. Turning the haptic vibration off makes the typing experience feel smoother and keeps the battery staying for long.

By enabling the power saving mode, you can save up your energy for use. But apart from that, by enabling the setting that limits charging to 80%, it can give your battery a long life. A full 100% battery causes chemical stress which can degrade the battery health fast. With this smart protection, it stops the charging at 80% and completes the rest of 20% right before you unplug.
Here you can check out some of the latest tablets with battery saver mode which will give you a long runtime for the screen.
