That is why I feel settings should not be ignored. For outdoor shots, ISO 100 or a low ISO usually works better in daylight because the picture looks cleaner. Aperture around f/8 or f/11 is useful when you want the trees, road, mountains and sky to stay clear together.
Shutter speed depends on the scene. If you are clicking by hand, keep it fast enough so the photo does not shake. If there is a waterfall, moving cloud or night view, a slower shutter can look better, but a tripod is needed.
