Neena Gupta is gearing up for the release of her next film, Aachari Baa. Directed by Hardik Gajjar, the heartwarming family drama starts streaming from March 14 only on JioHotstar. Its official trailer was released recently and within hours, created quite an impact. That's because the plotline looked pretty relatable, reflecting the changing dynamics betweenparents and children in modern society and how finding an identity is possible at any age.
Aachari Baa: What Does The Trailer Show?
The trailer for Aachari Baa starts in a typical Gujarati household showing three homemakers, including Gupta, doing playful garba. Gupta's character, Jaishnaviben Anopchand Vagadia, is shown as someone who is very energetic and resourceful for her age. She loves making pickles and believes that it has an omnipresent importance in Indian gastronomic palettes.
As the clip progresses, we understand that her son, Vatsal Sheth, lives in Mumbai with his family and doesn't keep in touch with her. However, Jaishnaviben doesn't lose hope and keeps praying for his call. One day, he suddenly rings her up and calls her to Mumbai, which makes her beyond ecstatic. Once there, Jaishnaviben realises that she has been called over to take care of their pet dog while they are vacationing in Darjeeling.
Feeling lonely, she starts mulling ways to distract herself when Kabir Bedi's character (which remains unclear) encourages her to turn her passion for making pickles into a profession. She pays heed and soon becomes a social media sensation. She starts earning and her life finally gets a purpose.

Once her son finds out, as is usually seen in Indian families, he berates and age-shames her and asks her to drop this madness. But Jaishnaviben is resilient and won't let this newfound individuality slip. How she manages to stay strong on her ground and whether her son gives her that deserved respect is a thing to find out on March 14 when Aachari Baa hits JioHotstar.
'Baa is not just a character....' Says Gupta
The trailer, lasting close to two minutes, does leave a mark on you. Neena Gupta's powerful performance, aided by the side characters, makes it so much better.
About her character, the veteran actor said, "Baa is not just a character but she is a reflection of countless mothers and grandmothers who have given their whole lives to their families, only to find themselves alone in the end. She is strong, yet fragile. She is fierce, yet deeply vulnerable. She does not ask for much, just a little love, a little time, a little presence."
