The 14-year-old girl was rescued from her employer’s house in Gurugram on the evening of February 7, 2023. The girl had been facing horrific physical abuse over the last few months, as per the police. The couple identified as Kamaljeet Kaur and Manish Khattar have been sacked from their jobs.
In a statemment by Max Life Insurance where Khattar worked, the company said, “Max Life believes in upholding high level of ethical and moral conduct at all times. We have severed the employment of the individual with immediate effect.”

The girl, who hails from Jharkhand and belongs to a migrant labourer’s family, is currently being treated at a hospital. The police also mentioned that there are allegations of sexual assault which are yet to be confirmed by them.
A Gurugram-based NGO contacted the police after a Twitter thread (by an activist) on the victim’s condition went viral, following which the police rescued the teen from the house.

Deepika Narayan Bharadwaj, an activist, journalist, and a documentary filmmaker, took to Twitter on February 7, 2023 sharing the incident after she raised an SOS on the same morning. “SOS GURGAON : Been tipped about a caretaker girl brutally beaten & assaulted by employers in a house in New Colony Gurgaon. Visible injuries & probably not given food also to eat. Can any rescue organisation get in touch? I'll share the details. Informer family scared to speak up,” she wrote and later said that the person who tipped her was the real hero.
Who Is The Accused Couple
Later, in the evening, she shared pictures of the bruises and burnt marks of the teen and other updates on the incident. She also mentioned how Kamaljeet Kaur and her husband Manish Khattar have been apologising and using their three and a half year old daughter as an excuse without a drop of tear in their eyes.

“The couple has been identified as Manish & Kamaljeet. Manish works with @MaxLifeIns & Kamaljeet works with @mediamantrapr in Gurgaon. Both have been arrested. They're now both saying they have a 3.5 yr old daughter & they're sorry. Not a tear visible in their eyes though.”
She further wrote, “This woman kept howling in police station about being mother of toddler. Not a shred of remorse for what she did to poor girl. This AH Manish had the audacity to tell me that he didn't cut the girl but only burnt her. Anyone in my position would do exactly what I did as a human.”

Bharadwaj further mentioned in one of her tweets that Kamaljeet has been sacked by her organisation as well.
