A complaint was filed against the movies "Laal Singh Chaddha," starring Aamir Khan, and "Shabaash Mithu," starring Taapsee Pannu, alleging that the films mocked people with disabilities. The complaint was by Dr Satendra Singh, co-founder of Doctors with Disabilities, who also suffers from 70% locomotor disability. He alleged that the films  violated provisions of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

According to a report in the Times of India, the complaint has questioned the usage of the word "langde/langdi" (crippled)  in the movies, which, in the complainant's opinion, is used to purposely degrade people rather than signify a disabiled person. The creators have been given 30 days to submit their responses.

Dr. Satendra Singh shared a copy of the notice issued by the court of commissioner for persons with disabilities on his complaint, but the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment did not provide any confirmation on the matter, as per the reports by PTI. According to the notice, the court of commissioner sought comments from the directors of Laal Singh Chaddha and Shabaash Mithu and the Union information and broadcasting ministry on the notice.

Why Complaint Is Filed?

Shabaash Mithu has been flagged for the usage of the words ‘Atki jo tangadi, gol gattam khali, ho gayi langadi’ in the song Masti Takita Dhoom. In english, the sentence means ‘The world spun as I tripped, can't stop limping’.

Laal Singh Chaddha’s, dialogue such as ‘pakad langde ko', which translates to ‘catch the cripple' in english has been flagged.

Unending Troubles For ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’

Laal Singh Chaddha faced troubles even before its release when the boycott of the film started trending even before its release because some people deemed Aamir to be ‘anti-Hindu’. The film was then faced with flak for Aamir’s expression. People compared his wide-eyed and raised eyebrow look with that of Mr. Bean, while some criticised him for his way of portraying Sikhs. Now with the legal complaints, the problems look unending for the film.
