Indian actor and megastar Chiranjeevi was honoured as the Indian Film Personality of the Year at the inaugural ceremony of the 53rd International Film Festival of India happening in Goa. The announcement was made by Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, at the film festival.

Taking to Twitter, Anurag Thakur wrote about Chiranjeevi's honour: “Sh Chiranjeevi Ji has had an illustrious career spanning almost four decades, w/ over 150 films as an actor, dancer & producer. He is immensely popular in Telugu Cinema w/ incredible performances touching hearts! Congratulations @KChiruTweets.” Chiranjeevi is one of the biggest stars of his generation from the Telugu film industry. In the 90s, he was regarded as the biggest star in India.
In his career spanning more than four decades, Chiranjeevi has acted in over 150 movies. He has performed in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi films. In his four-decade cinema career, Chiranjeevi has received nine Telugu Filmfare Awards, three Nandi Awards, and the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, the highest film honour in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

He was also honoured with Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award, for his contribution to Indian cinema. He also served as the Minister of Tourism for the Government of India from 2012 to 2014. Chiranjeevi was last seen in Godfather, which also featured Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

Bollywood actors Paresh Rawal, Ajay Devgn, Suneil Shetty, and Manoj Bajpayee were also felicitated with special honours at the IFFI 2022 opening ceremony.
