Winter mornings are already lazy, and none of us feels like preparing an extensive breakfast. Instead of consuming something unhealthy by bringing from a store, it is best to make a dish at home that requires basic ingredients and less time. Bread upma takes only 30 minutes to cook and is one of the scrumptious breakfast meals to relish. Here’s how you can make it: 

How To Cook Bread Upma? 

  • Begin by breaking your bread slices into medium size cubes.
  • Place a pan on the stove and heat oil. 
  • Add mustard seeds and let them crackle. Also, add cumin seeds. 
  • Add onion, green chilli and sauté them until they change colour. 
  • Then add ginger, curry leaves, tomatoes and cook for 10 to 12 seconds.
  • Add your spices, turmeric powder, and red chilli powder. Mix very well. Add salt.
  • Cover with a lid and let the onion-tomato-paste cook well. 
  • Once the moisture is gone, add the bread cubes and mix well with the rest of the mixture.
  • Cook on a low to medium flame, for 4 to 5 minutes, until they turn slightly crisp. 
  • Lastly, add coriander leaves and serve bread upma hot.

  • 6 Bread Slices
  • 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • ½ Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 Finely Chopped Green Chili
  • 1 Inch Finely Chopped Ginger
  • 6 To 7 Curry Leaves
  • 2 Finely Chopped Tomatoes
  • ¼ Teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • ¼ Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Salt To Taste
  • Oil To Cook

Break the bread slices in a bowl and keep aside.
Step 2
In a pan add oil mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
Step 3
Also add onion, green chilli, ginger, curry leaves, tomatoes and cook until all becomes a thick gravy.

Also add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.

Cover with a lid and let the spices cook well.

Once done, add the bread cubes and mix well.

Cook for another 4 to 5 minutes.
