Shalgam or turnip is one of the most loved winter vegetables. If you are tired of making your regular shalgam curry sabzi then try making this dry version. This masala shalgam recipe requires few ingredients and is ready in just 15 minutes. On days you don't know what to prepare for lunch, you can make this delicious and healthy shalgam sabzi.

How To Make Instant Masala Shalgam?

  1. Wash and peel the turnip and cut into small pieces. 
  2. Soak turnip pieces in hot water for a few minutes.
  3. Wash and cut tomatoes and prepare a puree. 
  4. In a pan, add some oil and roast the puree separately. 
  5. Next, in a cooker, add some oil. 
  6. Add chopped onions and saute till they turn a little pink. 
  7. Add crushed garlic and mix well. 
  8. Pour in the tomato puree and cook for a few seconds. It will cook quickly as it is already roasted.
  9. Next add all the spices as per taste - salt, black pepper powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder.
  10. Add kasuri methi and fresh methi leaves to the cooker and mix. 
  11. Add some water to the cooker so that the masala cooks well.
  12. Pressure cook till 1 whistle. 
  13. Garnish the sabzi with coriander leaves and serve with paratha or poori.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Boiled Shalgam Or Turnip
  • 1 Cup Roasted Tomato Puree
  • 2 Tbsp Chopped Onions
  • 1 Tbsp Kasuri Methi
  • 1 Tsp Chopped Garlic
  • 1 Tsp Chopped Methi Leaves
  • 1 Tsp Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Salt As Per Taste
  • Black Pepper Powder As Per Taste
  • Red Chilli Powder As Per Taste
  • Coriander Powder As Per Taste
  • Oil/Ghee As Required

Instructions

Step 1
In a pressure cooker, add some ghee or oil.
Step 2
Next add onions and saute for a few minutes.
Step 3
Add in chopped garlic and saute.
Step 4
Pour in the tomato puree and mix well.

Sprinkle salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, black pepper powder, coriander powder as per taste.

Sprinkle kasuri methi and mix all the ingredients well.

Add some water and cook the masala.
