Dahi bhindi or dahi bhindi masala is one of the few dishes you can eat at lunch or dinner. Its rich gravy makes it a perfect choice to serve your guests. We assure you that they will lick their fingers.

Okra or bhindi is rich in vitamin C that helps to boost the immune system. It is one of the few green vegetables that even kids like to eat. On the other hand, curd helps to strengthen bones and aids in weight loss. It also makes a rich base for the gravy. Let’s read the recipe!

Method Of Preparation

Roast Bhindi

  • Cut top and tail of okra (bhindi).
  • Cut each bhindi into an inch size.
  • Dice two small tomatoes into medium chunks.
  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt to taste, asafoetida and coriander powder.
  • In a tablespoon of mustard oil or olive oil sauté the bhindi.
  • Add tomatoes to it, and sauté them until they are soft.

Bhindi Masala

  • Roughly cut 2-inch ginger and two green chillies. Add them to a stone grinder with a pinch of salt and crush them into a coarse paste.
  • Pour a cup of beaten curd (dahi) into a deep bowl.
  • Add a teaspoon each of red chilli powder, gram flour and coriander powder, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, salt to taste and half a tablespoon of mustard oil or olive oil.
  • Mix everything to ensure there are no lumps in the mixture.

Dahi Bhindi

  • Add a tablespoon of mustard oil to a pan.
  • Add cumin seeds (jeera), fennel seeds (saunf) and coriander seeds (dhaniya) in equal proportions.
  • Add coarse paste of green chillies and ginger.
  • Pour the curd (dahi) mixture into the pan and keep stirring to ensure the grainy texture.
  • Add fresh curry leaves and water to maintain consistency.
  • Add a pinch of sugar and add the sautéed bhindi (okra) and tomatoes to the curd gravy.
  • Serve the dish hot with roti or paratha.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients: (Roast Okra) 250gm Bhindi
  • Salt To Taste
  • 2 Small Diced Tomatoes
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • Pinch Of Asafoetida
  • 1 Tablespoon Mustard Oil
  • (Bhindi Masala) 2 Roughly Chopped Chillies
  • 2-inch Ginger
  • 1 Cup Curd
  • 1 Tablespoon Gram Flour
  • 1 Salt To Taste
  • 1/2 Tablespoon Mustard Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • (Dahi Bhindi)
  • 1 Tablespoon Mustard Oil
  • 1 Teaspoon Coriander Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Fennel Seeds
  • 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Curry Leaves

Instructions

Step 1
(Roast Bhindi) Cut top and tail of okra (bhindi).
Step 2
Cut each bhindi into a 1-inch size.
