As per the database of Thomas Cook India, there has been a strong and growing demand from Indian consumers seeking to extend the upcoming Independence Day week into a “micro-break” or “smart weekend” holiday. The upcoming week sure is full of holidays for some starting with Bakri Eid on Monday, August 12, Independence Day on Thursday, August 15, and Parsi New Year on Saturday, August 17, many are opting to convert this opportunity into a short mid-year break of a 4 to 7-day getaway. And Why not? Well, you are lucky if your boss sanctioned the in between leaves and does not expect you to work from home... back to the holiday part. Stop reading this introduction and dive in!

As per the research, “micro-breaks” have seen a surge of almost 40 % over the last 2 years, with individuals opting for 2-3 smart weekend holidays in addition to 1-2 long vacations annually.

This is mostly because of the workaholic habits of us Indians. This trend is famous amid metro city travellers who want to utilise the long weekend to take a quick break from their hectic schedule. They... as in we... like to go for short-haul destinations to chill and de-stress.

Tier 1 metros which include Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata, along with mini-metros like Pune, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Ahmedabad, amongst others, make the 70% of that population. Here Tier 2 & 3 cities are also catching up with a 30 % demand. These cities include Jaipur, Tiruchirappalli, Mysore, Kozhikode, and Nagpur.

Since last year, Independence Day week-weekend has witnessed a spike of 34%. The places which have become the hot spots include  Udaipur, Andaman’s as well as hill stations like Dalhousie, Mussoorie, Manali, Darjeeling, Rishikesh, Ooty, Mahabaleshwar & Shillong
