Situated at the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan Range, the hamlet of Dhanaulti offers a panoramic view of the lofty Himalayas. This hamlet is rapidly emerging as a popular winter destination because of its serene landscape.
The tinsel town is at an elevation of 2286 metres above sea level and is located 115 kilometres from the district headquarters New Tehri. Dhanaulti is merely 60 kilometres from Mussoorie, located within the important tourist circuit including Tehri, Kanatal, and Chamba, among others.
If you are a Bengali, you will be reminded of the Fossils’ song Tomay Dilam after seeing the town canopied with velvety rhododendrons, deodar, and tall oak trees. This especially attracts tourists at the time of heavy snowfall.

There are almost as many as nine places to visit in and around Dhanaulti. From half a kilometre to 50 kilometres, the sightseeing places include the Aaloo Khet, Dhanaulti Eco Park, Kanatal, Surkanda Devi Temple, Kaudia forest, Chamba, Tehri Dam, Tehri Lake, and New Tehri, among others.
Dhanaulti also offers activities such as skywalk upon a 360 feet long single wire rope at a height of 120 feet, sky bridging (India’s longest hanging bridge made of wire ropes and bamboo having a length of 300 feet and height 80 feet), zip swing at the height of 80 feet, trekking for first timers, rock climbing, rappelling, mountain biking, paragliding, and quad bike adventures. You can also go skating in Dhanaulti and explore hidden caves situated merely six kilometres at Buranskhanda enveloped with alpine meadows and with Deodar, Oak, Walnut, and Apricot trees.
The hamlet is also a great place to go camping at a budgeted price under the starry night at the foothill of the Himalayas.
How To Reach?
You can travel by road, air, and rail as well. It is an eight to nine hours drive away and you can avail bus, car or two-wheelers as well. You can avail flights as well and the nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport near Dehradun which is 82 kilometres from Dhanaulti. You can head to the nearest railway station at Dehradun 74 kilometres away, in case travelling on rail.
