Have you ever noticed that the moment you wear lipstick your face lights up and gives an instant glow to your face? A lipstick has the power to boost a person's confidence, make or break her look and feel pampered as well. However, lips have no oil glands of their own, which makes them extremely prone to chipping and cracking during changing weather. So when you invest in a lipstick you must keep a few things in mind. Even when you are applying it, you must prep your lips well so as to not damage your lips or their pigmentation besides the incessant drying and cracking they go through. This National Lipstick Day 2021, which is on July 29, we bring to you some expert approved tips on investing and application of your favourite lipsticks, that will help you out.
Lipsticks undoubtedly enhance the beauty of the lips, but being an artificial product, they can cause harm to the lips. Dr. Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson Blossom Kochhar Group of Companies, told HerZindagi that "applying lipsticks regularly or for long hours can make the lips chapped, block the pores, darken the lips, or sometimes it may lead to allergy and irritation. We definitely cannot stop wearing lipsticks, but we can protect our lips from any harmful effects."
Here are some tips that you must keep in mind:
Keep Your Lips Moisturised
This is one of the most significant steps in lip care. Moisturising the lips can prevent chipping and darkening. Before applying lipstick, moisturise your lips with a natural lip balm. It will prevent the lips from any harmful damage by lipstick. For moisturisation, coconut oil can also be used.
Creamy lipsticks are the best when it comes to hydration as they do not dry out on you or lead to cracks in general.
Keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration is another factor that immediately affects the well-being of our skin. Dehydration also leads to the extreme dryness of the lips. Drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day.
Make sure you are wearing excellent quality natural lipsticks which are less chemically treated and organic ones would be the best. Lipsticks prepared with chemicals can darken your lips quickly and can even lead to lip allergies.
So invest in a few pieces instead of buying an entire kit which can harm you.
Lip exfoliators are mainly in balm texture with granules. Lip exfoliation can help to keep the lips nourished and soft. It removes the dead skin and leaves the lips revived and smooth. Exfoliate your lips at least twice a week.
Apply the honey pack on the lips at least twice a week. Honey moisturises and treats the cracked lip. It is also suitable to reduce inflammation or irritation. Take half a teaspoon of honey and apply it all over your lips, using your fingertips. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse off.
Vitamin C helps to repair and heal the lip texture. Vitamin C infused with antioxidants can keep the lips hydrated and pink. Vitamin C also aids in detoxifying the lips by removing any toxins because of dirt or pollution.
Vitamin E And Aloe Vera Gel
Take half a teaspoon of aloe vera gel and add 2 drops of vitamin E oil to it and apply it on your lips. Leave it for 10 minutes and rinse off. You can do this before applying lipstick to keep the lips soft and supple.
Treat Cracked Lips
Crush rose petals and mix in a little butter, apply generously on the lips at bedtime. This will help keep the lips soft.
