ways to prevent nail breakage

Breaking a nail is frustrating, but brittle nails can be even annoying. There are, however, some things you can do to protect your nails from breakage and promote healthy growth. You must properly and patiently care for your nails—strong, attractive nails do not appear overnight. Here are some tips that can help you to prevent your nails from breaking.

1. Do Not Use Nail Hardeners

Nail Hardeners

Nail hardeners are used to increase the strength of brittle nails. Dermatologists, on the other hand, advise against using them because they may contain toluene-sulfonamide-formaldehyde resin, which can make your nails even drier and lead to breakage.

2. Do Not Cut Your Cuticles

Cuticles should never be cut or removed because this might lead to infection and irritation. Trimming or cutting cuticles is purely cosmetic and doesn't benefit the nail in any way. In fact, it's actually harmful to your nails. The small area of skin is there to protect your nails from infection. When this skin is removed, your nail is left unprotected which leads to cuts and breakage of your nail. Just gently push them back. To ensure that your cuticles are soft and malleable, take a shower or soak your fingers in lukewarm water for 10 to 15 minutes before pushing them back.

3. Keep Your Nail Tips Well Rounded

The tips that are well-rounded have the least danger of breaking. Certain nail shapes are more durable than others, and it all comes down to how your fingers contact objects. Because pointed edges snag or break more easily, square forms and stilettos are more likely to shatter. The impact of typing or hitting your fingertips on anything is absorbed by round or oval shapes.

When doing other household activities, don't forget to protect your nails. Soap and cleaning detergents include harsh chemicals that are harmful to your nails and can lead to breakage. When cleaning the kitchen or scrubbing the bathroom, wear gloves with a cotton lining to protect your hands and nails.

Nail paint remover can harm your nails and cause them to break more easily. Switch to a conditioning, acetone-free nail polish remover to keep your nails healthy and strong. It's also a good idea to keep the use of nail polish remover to a minimum. To help protect your nails, use nail paint remover no more than once a week.
