Koreans love their skin squeaky clean and they follow a regime religiously to achieve that glass skin. Try this routine with an affordable twist and we recommend that you use all organic products as we have in this video. This regime works like a charm on dry skin. Individuals with oily skin can use a serum instead of facial oil during step 8.
What You Need:
- Oil-based Cleanser
- Foaming Cleanser
- Exfoliator/ Face Scrub
- Face cream (night routine)/ Face cream with SPF or additional SPF lotion (day time routine). The one I am using has 30 SPF in it.
- Facial Oil or Serum (I will be using a facial oil as I find it more effective, affordable and easily available in India).
- Face Towel
- Face Wipes (optional)
- Jade Roller
- Lip Balm
STEP 1: Take a few drops of oil cleanser in your palm and massage it all over your face. It helps in breaking down all that difficult makeup and cleanses off all the gunk your skin might have. Wipe it off with a warm wet towel or wash your face with warm water.
STEP 2: Take two pumps of your foaming facial cleanser. Rub it between your palms and apply all over your face and neck.
FACT: Koreans like to double cleanse and at times triple cleanse. They make sure your face is squeaky clean. You will be surprised to see that at times your face still has some sediments of pollution, traces of makeup left even after double cleansing.
STEP 3: Invest in a good face scrub or exfoliator which suits your skin type. Since I have dry skin, I use a scrub with sea buckthorn in it. Take a coin size amount in your palm and apply all over your face and neck. Do not miss out on the area around your nose, around your ears and the neck. This step should be done only twice a week. Too much scrubbing strips you off the natural oils in your skin. Wipe with a towel
STEP 4: Now take a toner. I have used rose water as a toner as it is very affordable and easily available online or in the stores. You could also use cucumber toner or aloe vera toner. Take some in your palms and rub it between your hands. Pat it all over your face and neck. We pat for better blood circulation and so that our skin absorbs all the goodness.
FACT: In this tutorial, everything is organic, devoid of parabens, sulphate and alcohol.
STEP 5: Next comes in the essence. This is like a semi-serum which helps in repairing areas of your skin which has dry patches. This is easily available online and in stores. Using it is one of the most important steps in Korean skincare routines.
STEP 6: You can use a mask sheet twice a week. Right after using the essence but before the moisturiser.
STEP 7: Now comes the moisturiser with or without SPF, depending on what time you do this routine. Take a small amount and apply it all over your face and neck.
STEP 8: Bring on that super hydrating serum or facial oil. I prefer facial oil which is amazing for dry skin. Since a little goes a long way, you just need a drop or two. Take some on your palms and pat it all over your face. Since the formula is thicker than a serum it takes a bit longer to seep in your skin.
STEP 9: Now comes in our twist and that is the jade roller. This is a Chinese beauty concept to keep wrinkles at bay. This roller is made of jade stone and has super soothing and calming properties. The bigger end is used all over your face whereas the smaller one is best used under your eyes. Use it in diagonal directions. Do not forget to use the roller over your neck and eyes as they give out the early signs of ageing.
TIP: Keep the roller in the fridge for a few minutes before applying for best effect.
